The Associate Director, Community Education (ESOL) assists the Community Education Associate Dean in planning, developing, managing and evaluation continuing education non-credit ESOL courses. The Associate Director will also assist with the administration and marketing of other continuing education courses and training programs as needed.

Essential Functions:

The duties of the Associate Director, Community ESOL include, but are not limited to:

COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAMMING

  • Assist the Associate Dean of Community Education in assessing the educational needs of the diverse community in Massasoit's service area and customize ESOL educational programming to meet community needs.
  • Review divisional enrollment data and modify existing and/or develop new Community Education ESOL curricula.
  • Coordinate with other sister institutions' ESOL colleagues and attend networking events to identify and recruit ESOL instructors.
  • Participates in discussions and collaborates with ESOL instructors and other college staff as it pertains to the recruitment, retention and successful course completion of ESOL students.

ADJUNCT ESOL INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT SUPPORT

  • Assists the Community Education Associate Dean in recruiting, interviewing, and selecting adjunct ESOL instructors for hire.
  • Works with the Registrar's Office to create ESOL class schedules and reserve classroom in advance of each semester.
  • Works with IT to ensure instructional equipment are available and operational in all assigned ESOL classrooms prior to the start of the semester.
  • Works with IT to ensure instructor laptops are available and operational for distribution prior to the start of the semester.
  • Schedule and assign Community Education ESOL instructors for all semester classes.
  • Works with the division's Staff Assistants to arrange instructor contracts and supporting documentation.
  • Works with the division's Staff Assistants to prepare correspondence regarding ESOL course matters with instructors and students, as well as order textbooks and supplies, and create program certificates and awards.
  • Provides appropriate orientation to ESOL instructors, including the use of curriculum materials, building and parking lot security information, explanation of teaching schedule, use of instructor stations, timesheet completion process, as well as college policies and introductions to Community Education and college staff.
  • Provides information to prospective and current ESOL students regarding course content, fees and college policies.
  • Support and collaborate with Community Education ESOL instructors on the inclusion of high impact practices in their teaching strategies, especially for English language learners.
  • Promote ESOL instructor awareness of student needs, and recommend appropriate strategies to address learning needs.
  • Manage day-to-day activities of Community Education ESOL instructors and students, including attempting to solve all first level student and instructor issues.
  • Assist the Associate Dean of Community Education in collecting, evaluating, analyzing, and reporting meaningful Community ESOL student outcome data and other successes from the student, instructor, and College perspectives.
  • Share and discuss Community Education ESOL student course evaluation results with instructors.
  • Use the evaluation data effectively to inform future course offerings and program development.
  • Maintain an organized system of tracking Community Education ESOL registrations and enrollments.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION

  • Assist the Community Education Associate Dean in administering the divisional budgets for designated programs and training courses as appropriate.
  • Assist the Community Education Associate Dean in the coordination of writing and implementing grant proposals as well as the implementation and submission of required accreditation and licensing documentation.
  • Assist in the development, proofing, editing, and delivery of Community Education catalogs, brochures, fliers, advertising and other marketing materials.
  • Assist in answering telephone and e-mail inquiries about continuing education courses and training programs.
  • Represent Massasoit and Community Education in various local and regional meetings (e.g., meetings with statewide workforce development staff, business organizations, as needed.)
  • Assist in preparing appropriate departmental reports (e.g., monthly and annual enrollment reports and activities).
  • Provide evening and weekend Community Education campus and event coverage when needed.
  • Participate in divisional and college-wide meetings and serve on various work committees as needed.
  • Represent the Community Education Associate Dean in their absence as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of college academic administrative experience in working with diverse populations or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years of college teaching experience either in-person or online; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Understanding of the community college history, mission, and its diverse students

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Education or a related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of community college academic administrative experience in working with diverse populations or equivalent
  • Fluency in Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, or Spanish
  • Grant writing and grant administration experience
  • Banner or other student information system experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of curriculum development and instructional technology related to education, behavioral, and social science research trends
  • Demonstrated understanding of the community college mission and role with a focus on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to respond appropriately with respect for the various cultures and needs of ESOL adult students
  • Ability to analyze data and make sound recommendations and offer viable solutions about complex management and administrative issues
  • Outstanding creativity, attention to detail, and strong customer service skills
  • Strong public speaking and group facilitation skills
  • Excellent written communications skills

 


Additional Information:


Position Status: 
Non-Unit Professional, full-time, state funded with benefits.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends. This position may be eligible for telework in accordance in with the College's telework policy.

Salary: $77,259-$100,437 annually. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.
